How is recovery coaching different from therapy?

Recovery Coaching tends to be very present and future based: focused on practical coping skills, goal setting, and accountability. Services are provided by a professional with lived experiences similar to your own.

Working with a recovery coach is useful for establishing healthy everyday routines and behaviors. Coaches offer insight into their own recovery—what has worked for them as well as past clients—and they can be a huge source of guidance and friendship.

Recovery Coaching is based on partnership. My aim is to work with you to envision your own best life, to make your own choices, and along the way I will be there to help you stay on track and take the actions that bring about change.

I will work one-on-one with you, as well as coordinate with your care team at-large. Recovery doesn’t happen in a vacuum, and it is important that the people working with you are on the same page. I am also able to help connect you with services (therapists, dietitians, doctors, etc), if you don’t currently have a team of your own.

One of the biggest benefits of Recovery Coaching is the flexibility it offers: we don’t have to meet in an office, you can email me between sessions, we can attend recovery meetings together or go to that doctors appointment you have been avoiding. Virtual sessions are relaxed and friendly, and often have the feel of chatting with a friend or an older sibling.
